Justice Emeka Nwite approved her release on a ₦10 million bond with one surety of the same amount.

In his ruling, Justice Nwite noted that the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence to indicate the defendant was likely to flee. “I have thoroughly reviewed the affidavit evidence presented by both the defendant and the complainant,” he stated.

The court emphasized that bail should be granted when there is no risk of the accused evading trial or interfering with the judicial process.

The conditions for bail include that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, submit a three-year tax clearance certificate, provide an affidavit of means, and have their address verified. Both Thomas and the surety are also required to deposit two recent passport photographs with the court registrar.

The trial has been adjourned to February 18, 2025.

Case Background

Olamide Thomas was arraigned on December 20, 2024, on a three-count charge filed by the police after her viral social media posts allegedly harassed and threatened Seyi Tinubu, IGP Egbetokun, and Police Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi.

She pleaded not guilty and was remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre.

According to the charge sheet (FHC/ABJ/CR/636/2024), Thomas was accused of using a computer network to transmit video messages in Yoruba, predicting that Seyi Tinubu would die within the year and attributing misfortunes to his family. These acts allegedly instilled fear of death or harm in Seyi Tinubu, violating Section 24(2)(a) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024.
