In a statement released on Thursday, July 11, 2024, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the spokesperson for the command, announced that 43 other suspects linked to offenses such as culpable homicide, kidnapping, armed robbery, and causing grievous harm were remanded with ongoing trials.
“You will recall that on July 4, 2024, a total of 149 suspects were paraded at the State Headquarters in Bompai, Kano, for offenses including culpable homicide, kidnapping, armed robbery, and thuggery-related crimes following a clearance operation conducted between June 24 and July 4, 2024, just ten days after the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, assumed duty,” the statement read.
“All the suspects were arraigned in various courts at the Justice Aloma M. Mukhtar and Justice A. B. Wali Court complexes in Nomansland and Gyadi-Gyadi Quarters, Kano, respectively, for prosecution.
“In a follow-up by the Command, a total of 106 suspects were successfully convicted for thuggery-related crimes with no option of a fine, while 43 other suspects linked to capital offenses such as culpable homicide, kidnapping, armed robbery, and causing grievous harm were remanded with ongoing trials.
“The Kano Police Command will continue to remain resolute and steadfast in fighting all forms of criminal activities and bringing the perpetrators to justice. Moving forward, members of the public are urged to continue cooperating with the Command to ensure the safety and security of all residents in the state.
“Finally, the Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, appreciates the judiciary as a critical part of the criminal justice system for their contributions to achieving this feat. Their contribution is highly commendable and will go a long way in curtailing criminal activities to the barest minimum in the state.”
