Crisis Rocks APC As Rivers Chapter Demands Immediate Resignation Of National Spokesman, Morka
The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded the immediate resignation of the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, over remarks he made concerning the ongoing political crisis in the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The party said its decision followed Morka’s recent appearance on a national television programme, during which he reportedly faulted the Rivers APC’s position on what it described as legislative overreach and an alleged attempt by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to unlawfully remove Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the state’s spokesperson, Darlington Nwauju, the Rivers APC described Morka’s comments as embarrassing and unacceptable, particularly his public questioning of the legitimacy of the party’s state officials.
Nwauju expressed outrage over Morka’s remarks regarding his status, noting that the national spokesman referred to him as an official of a former executive council and cast doubt on his membership in the current party leadership. According to the statement, such comments amounted to open ridicule and demonstrated a lack of respect for the party’s established structure in Rivers State.
The party further accused Morka of consistently showing contempt for subsisting court judgments, arguing that his statements had undermined the credibility of the APC’s national publicity office on matters relating to Rivers State.
The Rivers APC cited multiple court rulings, including Suit No. PHC/3592/CS/2023 (Sam Sam Etetegwung vs APC) and Suit No. 3859/CS/2024 (OkwuJoe Brown Ndke vs APC), which nullified the dissolution of the executives elected on October 16, 2021, and voided the November 2023 congress that purportedly replaced them. The party said these judgments legally empowered Nwauju to continue speaking on its behalf.
The statement stressed that as a party committed to constitutional democracy and the rule of law, Morka no longer possesses the moral authority to function as a national officer after allegedly promoting a partisan interpretation of valid court rulings on national television.
According to the Rivers APC, Morka’s comments were dangerous, divisive and capable of weakening the party’s chances of mobilising and winning elections in the state. The party argued that he should have exercised restraint rather than using his platform to defend a non-party member while undermining an APC governor who remains the undisputed party leader in Rivers State.
The party also faulted the National Working Committee (NWC) for allegedly tolerating conduct that promotes internal division, warning that such actions threaten party cohesion.
Citing provisions of Article 13.4(xvi) of the APC constitution, the Rivers chapter questioned why a national officer would downplay what it described as a self-serving impeachment plot against a sitting APC governor. It insisted that Morka’s comments were personal opinions and did not reflect the official position of the party’s NWC.
The statement further accused Morka of disloyalty, arguing that his conduct had damaged the party’s image and raised doubts about his commitment to the APC’s electoral success in Rivers State.
Describing Morka as a trained lawyer who ought to know better, the party alleged that his actions were motivated by personal interest. It called on the Nigerian Bar Association and the Legal Practitioners Privileges Council to investigate what it described as his unprofessional conduct, alleging that his comments on national television undermined the dignity of the courts and the legal profession.
The Rivers APC reaffirmed that actions taken by individuals who emerged from the disputed November 2023 congresses amounted to a direct challenge to court rulings and were legally unsustainable.
The statement concluded by urging the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwada, and the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, to take decisive steps to prevent a repeat of the party’s setbacks in Rivers State experienced during the 2019 elections.
