Farouk stepped down from office amid claims of corruption and economic sabotage made by billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote, who accused him of spending millions of dollars in public funds on his children’s secondary education in Switzerland.

His resignation reportedly followed a brief meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking on Channels Television, the NBA President said Farouk’s exit from office should not halt a full probe into the allegations. He maintained that an investigation was necessary to prevent the accusations from being perceived as a calculated move to push the former NMDPRA chief out of office.

Osigwe noted that taking sides would be inappropriate, stressing that the situation had become an embarrassment for public institutions and the government. He referenced the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission’s (ICPC) indication that it would investigate the claims.

“Let there be a comprehensive investigation,” he said, “so that either the former NMDPRA boss is cleared of the allegations or it is established that he is indeed culpable. The allegations should not simply be used as a tool to remove someone from office.”
