The message was delivered on Wednesday during an official meeting in Ouagadougou, where discussions centered on collaboration across multiple sectors, including security and the fight against terrorism.
Speaking after the audience, Tuggar highlighted the longstanding ties between Nigeria and Burkina Faso, emphasizing their shared security concerns and the goal of reinforcing mutual understanding and neighborly relations.
“We exchanged views on cooperation in various sectors and also addressed the recent Nigerian aircraft that made an emergency landing in Burkina Faso,” he said.
Tuggar acknowledged procedural lapses in the authorisation process for the aircraft’s entry into Burkinabe airspace, expressing Nigeria’s regret over the incident while reaffirming respect for Burkina Faso’s sovereignty and international aviation protocols.
The minister also distanced the Nigerian government from comments made by a political party official alleging mistreatment of Nigerian military personnel in Burkina Faso. “We clearly dissociate ourselves from those remarks and convey our sincere regrets to the government of Burkina Faso,” Tuggar stated.
He praised President Traoré and his administration for their hospitality and fair treatment of the aircraft’s occupants during their stay.
The discussions further addressed broader regional efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism, with Tuggar noting Burkina Faso’s significant achievements in counter-terrorism operations.
He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to sustained dialogue, regional solidarity, and enhanced cooperation with Burkina Faso and other sub-regional countries to tackle shared security challenges.
