Dangote Fires Back: My Workers Earn Triple Nigeria’s Minimum Wage
The President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has dismissed speculations that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery would lead to job losses.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking at a press conference held at the refinery on Monday, the billionaire businessman stressed that, contrary to the claims, the company is creating massive employment opportunities.
His remarks came against the backdrop of a dispute with the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).
Dangote revealed that the deployment of 4,000 compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered trucks will generate no fewer than 24,000 new jobs nationwide.
“We have not displaced any jobs; rather, we are creating many more. The CNG trucks will not be operated by robots,” he said.
According to him, Dangote Group staff enjoy robust welfare packages, including salaries three times higher than the minimum wage, life and health insurance covering employees, their spouses, and up to four children, as well as pension benefits.
He added that the refinery’s job creation drive extends beyond drivers to include mechanics, fleet managers, and other professionals needed to run and maintain the CNG fleet.
The refinery had earlier announced the acquisition of the trucks on June 15, describing it as a move to strengthen fuel distribution nationwide.
Two weeks later, on June 29, it disclosed that its petroleum products distribution system would help Nigerians save over ₦1.7 trillion annually.
However, in September, NUPENG declared plans for a nationwide strike, accusing the refinery of anti-union practices, with industrial action scheduled to commence on September 8.
