Dangote Refinery Raises Diesel Price – Here’s What It Means For Businesses And Transporters
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has raised the price of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel, by ₦100 per litre.
The latest adjustment increases the refinery’s gantry price from ₦1,570 to ₦1,670 per litre and is expected to take effect from midnight on August 21, 2026.
The increase represents a 6.4 per cent rise and comes after the refinery had maintained a relatively lower diesel price in recent weeks.
Following the adjustment, diesel from the Dangote Refinery will now be sold at ₦1,670 per litre.
The new price is ₦21 above the current landing cost of imported diesel, which is estimated at ₦1,649 per litre.
However, despite the latest hike, the refinery’s price remains below the ₦1,700 per litre rate quoted by several Lagos-based petroleum depots as of August 20.
The affected depots include African Terminal, Integrated, Duport, Ibachem, Gulf Treasure and Pivot.
The latest price increase comes amid a rise in international crude oil prices.
Brent crude has recently climbed above $93 per barrel, while geopolitical tensions involving Iran and the Strait of Hormuz have added further pressure to global oil markets.
Meanwhile, the Association of Energy Policy and Development Consultants (AEPD) has withdrawn its earlier call for the removal of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Group Chief Executive Officer, Bayo Ojulari.
The group said subsequent investigations revealed what it described as a “high level of transparency” in the company’s financial management.
