In a press conference held in Lokoja, the state capital, Melaye characterized the election as a farce.
“There was no election; accreditation was done manually, BVAS was not used, and prepared result sheets were available before the election,” he asserted. Melaye urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to annul the election, citing evidence to substantiate his claims.
Accusing INEC of gross incompetence, bias, and compromise, he called for a leadership change at the electoral body, describing it as a hindrance to the nation’s development.
Melaye further highlighted INEC’s refusal to provide result sheets in numerous polling units, alleging a deliberate absence of result sheets in areas he secured.
He passionately appealed for the total cancellation of the election, expressing sympathy for the people of Kogi and lamenting the state of Nigeria’s electoral system.
Preliminary results from collation centers across the state indicate that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Usman Ahmed Ododo, is leading in the early count.
