In an interview with Vanguard in Abuja on Monday, Pastor Simon Dolly, the Secretary of CAN, North-Central Zone, stressed the importance of adhering to the law and promoting peaceful conflict resolution.

Dolly emphasized, “As religious leaders, we firmly believe that carrying arms without proper license or authority, regardless of the circumstances, constitutes a violation of the law and poses a potential threat to the further breakdown of order and security in our nation.

“It is our responsibility as faith leaders to advocate for lawful and peaceful conflict resolution. Rather than encouraging the proliferation of arms, we highlight the significance of prayer for peace in our nation and urge our followers to support the government in fulfilling its primary duty of safeguarding the lives and property of all citizens.

“We also emphasize the values of tolerance, brotherliness, unity, forgiveness, and cooperation in our teachings and interactions with our followers, as these are crucial for fostering a harmonious and secure society.”

Acknowledging the complexities surrounding the issue of firearms in Nigeria, Pastor Simon Dolly called for a comprehensive approach that addresses the root causes of insecurity.

“We call upon our leaders to prioritize initiatives that promote dialogue, understanding, and the fair distribution of resources to address the grievances that often lead to violence and conflict,” he added.
