Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who served from 2015 to 2023, claimed during a media interview on Monday that all the projects recently inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu were conceived during his tenure.

However, in a prompt rebuttal, Ibraheem Musa, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Uba Sani, dismissed the claim as a “bare-faced lie” and an attempt to manipulate publicly available facts.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Musa clarified that the projects in question were either initiated or completed under Governor Sani’s administration.

He detailed that President Tinubu commissioned three major projects during his visit: the Institutes of Vocational Training and Skills Development located in Soba, Rigachikun, and Samaru Kataf; the 300-bed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Specialist Hospital; and the rollout of 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses.

The statement emphasized that the vocational institutes — the Abdulkadir Balarabe Musa Institute (Rigachikun), Col. Dangiwa Umar Institute (Soba), and Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa Institute (Samaru Kataf) — are central to Governor Sani’s human capital development plan, designed to equip 36,000 youths annually with practical, industry-relevant skills.

According to the government, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has certified these institutes as the best-equipped skills development centres in Nigeria. The NBTE’s Executive Secretary, Prof. Idris Bugaje, reportedly stated that no polytechnic or university of technology in the country rivals these facilities, dubbing Kaduna “the hub of skills development in Nigeria.”

On the hospital project, the state government noted that while it was originally initiated during Namadi Sambo’s administration, it remained abandoned for years. When Governor Sani took office, the facility was only 53% complete and lacked any medical equipment. The statement described it as a symbol of “waste, mismanagement, and abandonment” under previous governments.

Governor Sani prioritized the hospital’s completion and full equipping as part of a broader healthcare revitalization strategy, which also includes the upgrade of several general hospitals across the state. These efforts, the government said, are already expanding healthcare access and helping to reduce multidimensional poverty.

Describing the hospital as a “signature achievement,” the government added that President Tinubu was highly complimentary of Governor Sani’s work in the health sector during the commissioning.

On the transportation front, the government explained that the 100 CNG buses were launched to ease the burden of fuel subsidy removal. The buses provide free rides to workers, retirees, and students for the first six months, followed by highly subsidized fares for the general public.

The Kaduna State Government concluded by expressing disappointment in El-Rufai’s remarks, stressing that the facts are easily verifiable and that “no amount of revisionism can rewrite the truth.”
