Ebonyi State Governor Orders Suspension Of Health, Housing CommissionersEbonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has suspended two key members of his cabinet—the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma, and the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Francis Ori.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The suspensions were announced on Monday during a State Executive Council meeting in Abakaliki, the state capital. A statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, confirmed the suspensions. According to the statement, Dr. Ekuma was suspended for three months, while Ori was indefinitely suspended, both due to “gross misconduct and dereliction of duties.”
The statement read: “Following cases of gross misconduct and dereliction of duties by some government officials and related matters, the Chairman of the Council directed the indefinite suspension of the Honourable Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development and a three-month suspension for the Honourable Commissioner for Health.”
The suspensions appear to be linked to two issues. Sources suggest that Dr. Ekuma’s suspension may relate to the alleged theft of property from the Ministry of Health, with six ministry officials recently caught diverting government materials during an incident that occurred at the ministry’s premises on Saturday night. Governor Nwifuru personally ordered their arrest and prosecution.
In the case of Commissioner Ori, his suspension may be tied to his poor performance, particularly regarding his management of the Amaeze Housing Scheme in Ishielu Local Government Area, which has faced significant challenges under his oversight.
