Governor Mbah encouraged the youth and women in these communities to capitalize on the program’s opportunities, which include knowledge enhancement, improved seedlings, effective pest control methods, and agricultural extension services.
He emphasized that ATASP-1 is instrumental in cultivating modern agricultural enterprises within rural regions, thereby fostering sustainable employment and involvement of youth and women, especially in the Adani area of Enugu State and Omor region of Anambra State.
The governor underlined the program’s role in mitigating youth restiveness and enhancing productive engagement.
Governor Mbah assured ongoing governmental support for ATASP-1, suggesting its expansion to encompass a wider rural populace as beneficiaries.
Dr. Romanus Egba, the Zonal Coordinator of ATASP-1 (Adani and Omor), explained that the meeting aimed to review the program’s accomplishments and challenges during the first half of the year and beyond.
Additionally, the meeting aimed to assess achievements beyond farming, encompassing community and rural initiatives like infrastructure development, such as roads, schools, hospitals, and markets.
Egba outlined the program’s influence in improving socioeconomic conditions, increasing agricultural investment, and enhancing food security in both states.
He further expressed the intent to establish functional irrigation facilities for extensive dry-season farming within participating communities.
Chief Livinus Onyenwe, the Transitional Committee Chairman of Ayamulum in Anambra, acknowledged how the program has enriched livelihoods, spurred engagement within rural communities, and transformed agricultural practices among the local population.
