He explained that officers from the PMF would be selected, retrained, equipped, and given special designations to operate similarly to the efficient PMF units of the past. These officers will be focused on crisis response rather than routine duties or VIP escorts, as is the current practice.

The IGP emphasized that the specially trained squad members would be stationed strategically, ready for prompt deployment to any region facing a crisis in Nigeria.

He outlined plans for the gradual implementation of this initiative across different states, starting with selected pilot states. The ultimate goal, he clarified, is to establish a robust PMF that aligns with the force’s needs.

Furthermore, Egbetokun disclosed ongoing efforts to recruit additional personnel into the Nigeria Police Force to address the existing manpower shortage.

The retreat, themed “Intervention Of Ex-Inspectors General of Police For Strategic Contribution to Effective Policing In Nigeria,” served as a platform for the IGP to discuss various strategies aimed at enhancing the police force’s capabilities.

He highlighted the improvements in funding, largely attributed to government support, and expressed optimism about building a police force that can adeptly respond to evolving crime dynamics in Nigeria.
