The traditional ruler of Ewu kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, HRM Clement Ikolo Oghenerukevwe, has voluntarily presented himself to the authorities amidst allegations linking him to the tragic demise of 17 soldiers in the Okuama Community. Denying any involvement in the incident, Oghenerukevwe asserts his innocence in the matter.

Following a declaration by the military high command, Oghenerukevwe, alongside the president general of Ewu, Prof Ekpekpo Arthur, and six others, were sought for questioning by the Delta State Police Command.

Prior to surrendering to law enforcement, the traditional ruler addressed the media, expressing his astonishment at being implicated in such a grave accusation. He vehemently denies any complicity, emphasizing his commitment to peace and justice.

In a statement issued during a press briefing, Oghenerukevwe declared, “I am very surprised that my name as the monarch of the kingdom will appear in the list of wanted persons. I have no hand in the killings. I have no hand in encouraging anybody to kill anybody. It is against my philosophy as a human being and my faith as a Catholic.”

He further urged for a thorough investigation to unearth the truth behind the tragedy and bring the perpetrators to justice. Additionally, he highlighted ongoing efforts by the state government to reconcile internal conflicts within the kingdom, affirming his dedication to establishing a stable leadership structure.

As he navigates the complexities of the situation, Oghenerukevwe maintains his innocence, underscoring his intent to uphold peace and order within his jurisdiction.
