President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the elevation of the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy in Enugu to the status of a full-fledged University.
The announcement was made by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja.
Ngelale highlighted that this decision reflects Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the human resources within the health and social welfare sector.
Henceforth, the institution will be recognized as the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu, and will operate under the purview of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
This directive aligns with President Tinubu’s broader agenda, particularly in his capacity as the African Union (AU) Champion for Human Resources for Health. Under this mandate, he aims to train 120,000 frontline health workers across Nigeria within a span of 16 months. Additionally, his plan encompasses doubling the number of primary health facilities nationwide, expanding from the current 8,800 to over 17,000 within the next three years.
Moreover, the initiative includes doubling the graduation rate of health personnel from accredited nursing and midwifery institutions over the same three-year period. These efforts are geared towards fulfilling the Nigerian populace’s expectations for accessible, cost-effective, and high-quality healthcare services nationwide.
