Following the removal of subsidies for Band A customers and the increase in their daily electricity supply to a minimum of 20 hours, universities and public hospitals have reported a dramatic rise in their electricity bills.
Recently, the College of Medicine at the University of Lagos and the Lagos University Teaching Hospital complained about a significant surge in their electricity charges from the Eko Electricity Distribution Company. They were billed approximately N280 million for May, up from under N100 million previously. UNILAG’s monthly bill also increased from N180 million to N300 million.
