The charges included allegations of obtaining N2,894,500,000 (two billion, eight hundred and ninety-four million, five hundred thousand) through false pretenses, money laundering, fund conversion, and forgery.
These actions were in violation of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006, and punishable under Section 1 subsection 3 of the act.
The trial concluded with Justice Abubakar Turaki-Mohammed delivering a verdict in favor of the prosecution. He found all three accused individuals guilty of the charges brought against them by the Port Harcourt Zonal Command of EFCC. As a result, Justice Turaki-Mohammed sentenced each of them to two years in prison, collectively totaling six years from the date of their arrest.
However, the judge also provided them with the option of a fine. The first defendant was ordered to pay one million naira, while the second and third defendants were directed to pay N500,000 each into the consolidated Revenue Account of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
