This approach is aimed at reducing the caseload of the courts, cutting costs, and enhancing the quality of resolving election disputes.
As part of comprehensive structural and procedural reforms to the constitution and electoral laws, the legal professor has proposed that election petitions be concluded at the tribunal level once they receive just and proper adjudication by incumbent Justices of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, and High Court Judges.
Additionally, the former Court of Appeal Justice has recommended that only currently serving Justices of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, and High Court Judges under the oversight of the National Judicial Council (NJC) should be responsible for deciding election petition cases. They would also be subject to disciplinary action by the NJC in the event of any misconduct.
