According to a statement issued by ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare on Tuesday, the charges allege that Dyegh received ₦18,970,000 on May 19, 2014, intended for the construction of school facilities in Guma Local Government Area, Benue State. The statement further claims that Dyegh funneled the funds through Midag Limited, a company in which he holds significant interest.

“This alleged action violates Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000,” Bakare stated. Dyegh is also accused of using another company, Kangnaan Global Resources Limited, which he is reportedly connected to, to channel the funds.

The ICPC alleges that Dyegh abused his position by personally profiting from contracts awarded to these companies while acting as a signatory on their accounts. As a result, Justice Abubakar ordered Dyegh to be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Makurdi, pending a hearing for his bail application.

At the hearing, Dyegh’s lawyer, S.E. Irabo, applied for bail on his behalf, a request that was not opposed by ICPC lawyers Bako Along and T.S. Iorngee. The judge subsequently granted Dyegh bail in the sum of ₦20 million, with two sureties required to submit their international passports to the court.

The case has been adjourned until January 16, 2025.
