Former Nigerian Minister Lai Mohammed Appointed Special Advisor To UNWTO Secretary General

At the 66th UNWTO Commission for Africa (CAF) in Mauritius, Lai Mohammed, the former Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism in Nigeria, was named Special Advisor to Zurab Pololikashvili, the Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).
Having been actively engaged with UNWTO for seven years and contributing significantly to the global tourism body, Mohammed’s achievements include organizing the 61st UNWTO CAF Meetings in Nigeria in 2018 and the first UNWTO Global Conference on Linking Tourism, Culture, and Creative Industries in Lagos the following year.

His responsibilities will involve strategizing sustainable and safe tourism in the post-COVID-19 era, advising the UNWTO Secretary General on information and culture matters, and preparing relevant research documents in line with UNWTO’s principles.
Mohammed expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him by the Secretary General and expressed his commitment to guide tourism development responsibly and sustainably.
As the first Nigerian to serve in this capacity, Mohammed is honored to contribute to the growth and progress of tourism in Nigeria and the broader African region.
