The Argentine coach, who is currently in charge of the United States national team as they prepare for the 2026 World Cup, reflected on his time in the English Premier League, where he had three different coaching spells. His most recent role at Chelsea ended by mutual agreement in May 2024 after just one season.
Speaking to French newspaper L’Équipe, Pochettino said he has strong affection for England, its culture, and its football environment. He described it as the perfect place for anyone with a competitive mindset who wants to test their abilities, noting that it demands constant high performance.
During his five-year spell at Tottenham Hotspur, he led the club to the UEFA Champions League final in 2019 before departing. He also revealed that Spurs had previously approached him about a possible return after his first six months at Paris Saint-Germain in 2021, along with interest from other major clubs. However, he ruled out a return at the time, saying a move back to Spurs “was not realistic.”
The 51-year-old has also said in earlier interviews with BBC Sport that he is happy in the United States but remains open to a future return to the Premier League.
Tottenham Hotspur, currently struggling near the bottom of the table, are still in search of a permanent manager.
His comments come as preparations continue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
