He gave the charge on Monday during the decoration ceremony held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Disu stressed that the promotions should be viewed as increased responsibility rather than reward, adding that officers must remain fully accountable in their new roles.

He warned that the Nigeria Police Force would not tolerate indiscipline, abuse of office, corruption, or negligence under any command, insisting that policing must be guided by professionalism, respect for human rights, and responsiveness to citizens’ needs.

According to him, officers are expected to remain visible, approachable, and accountable to the public they serve.

Describing the ceremony as more than symbolic, the IGP said it reflects a deliberate effort to strengthen leadership within the Force at a time when accountability and efficiency are crucial.

He noted that the promotions were earned through years of discipline and service, but come with higher expectations and greater responsibility.

“This promotion is not a reward; it is a responsibility,” he said, adding that senior officers must demonstrate integrity, discipline, and respect for the rule of law.

He further stated that commanders would be held responsible not only for operational performance but also for the conduct of personnel under their supervision.

Reaffirming the Force’s commitment to people-oriented policing, Disu said reforms would focus on professionalism and modern practices.

He directed the newly promoted officers to embrace innovation, improve efficiency, and phase out outdated methods in policing operations.

He also announced that all newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General and AIGs will attend a strategic leadership retreat scheduled for March 24, 2026, organised in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The retreat, he said, will focus on leadership development, reform alignment, and capacity building.

Disu emphasised that attendance is mandatory and urged senior officers to prioritise mentorship, talent development, and the training of younger personnel.

He assured that promotions within the Force would continue to be based strictly on merit, performance, and integrity.

The IGP also commended President Bola Tinubu for his support in strengthening national security and praised the Police Service Commission for ensuring transparency in the promotion process.
