Fubara announced his decision in a personally signed statement on Wednesday night titled “My Decision to Withdraw from the Rivers State Gubernatorial Primaries.”

In the statement, the governor said his withdrawal followed wide consultations with family members, friends, and political associates, adding that he would support whoever emerges as the party’s governorship candidate.

He explained that the decision was made in the interest of peace, stability, and unity in Rivers State, stressing that public office should not override the collective good.

According to him, leadership sometimes requires personal sacrifice, noting that the peace and unity of the state must come before individual ambition.

Reacting on Instagram, Ch.iefpriest said Fubara’s withdrawal signified that Wike had prevailed in the political disagreement between them.

He further stated that an agreement existed between both sides and must be respected.

In his words, “Wike won, agreement is agreement.”

The reaction comes amid reports that part of the reconciliation terms between both political camps included an understanding that Fubara would not seek re-election after being reinstated as governor.
