They were joined by members of the Obidient Movement in Bayelsa State, along with other political supporters.

Also defecting to the NDC were businessman and politician Diepreye Leghemo, who moved with his followers, as well as PDP women mobiliser Esther Saiyo and her supporters.

The new entrants were formally received at the NDC state secretariat in Yenagoa on Wednesday by the party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas.

Cleopas welcomed the defectors and urged them to first align with the party’s ideology as championed by its leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, before pursuing personal political ambitions.

He said the party is driven by a philosophy centred on service to the people, describing the NDC as a platform for Nigerians seeking better governance.

The chairman also warned that the road ahead would be politically competitive, stressing the need for committed and determined members.

According to him, political power is not given but must be contested for, adding that members must be ready to fight for it with conviction and unity.

Cleopas further praised Okoya, describing him as a disciplined, intelligent, and principled individual whose values align with the vision of the party.

He noted that Okoya’s background in public service reflects the type of leadership the NDC aims to promote.

In his remarks, Okoya said he joined the NDC after resigning from the PDP and carefully evaluating other political options.

He explained that the party’s ideology and focus on service delivery influenced his decision, especially ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Leghemo also pledged commitment to the party, saying he would work with others to strengthen the NDC’s structure and electoral chances in Bayelsa State.

He vowed to contribute his resources and political influence toward building a stronger opposition platform.

The NDC, which recently received its registration certificate, has continued to attract politicians nationwide, including former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and members of the Obidient Movement.

The party has also drawn figures such as former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and other prominent politicians across the country.
