The exercise produced a wave of outcomes, with most first-term governors securing automatic return tickets to seek re-election, while several outgoing governors also succeeded in positioning their preferred successors through consensus arrangements across various states.

Governors who emerged unopposed as APC governorship candidates for 2027 include Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Umaru Bago (Niger), Dikko Radda (Katsina), Nasir Idris (Kebbi), Ahmad Aliyu (Sokoto), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom State), and Umar Namadi (Jigawa).

In addition, Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Senator Olamilekan Adeola (Ogun), Kingsley Chinda (Rivers), and Mustapha Gubio (Borno) all emerged as consensus governorship candidates in their respective states.

However, the process in Rivers State saw Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Tonye Cole, and Dakorinama George-Kelly withdraw from the race, leaving Kingsley Chinda as the sole aspirant.

The primaries were not without challenges in some states, including Oyo, Kwara, Bauchi, and Taraba, where disputes and procedural disagreements disrupted proceedings.

As previously reported, the APC national leadership suspended the Kwara governorship primary midway and rescheduled it for Friday.

In Taraba State, Governor Agbu Kefas faced strong opposition from former Minister of Transportation Mu’azu Sambo, who insisted on a transparent and credible process.

Similarly, in Oyo State, former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu rejected the exercise, alleging manipulation, intimidation, and irregularities in parts of the state.

In Bauchi State, party members also raised concerns over alleged attempts to impose candidates, demanding a fair, open, and competitive primary process.

Following these developments, the APC leadership postponed the governorship primaries in Bauchi to Friday and also rescheduled the State House of Assembly primaries for Maradun I and Maradun II constituencies in Zamfara State to Sunday, May 24, 2026.

These adjustments were confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.

He said the decisions were approved by the National Working Committee (NWC) after consultations with stakeholders, stressing that the party remains committed to conducting transparent, orderly, peaceful, and credible primaries nationwide.
