Full Statement: Tinubu Orders Nationwide Security Emergency To Tackle Insecurity

In a personally signed statement on Wednesday, the President unveiled a series of major measures designed to strengthen national security and confront rising threats head-on.

Key directives include:

  • Immediate additional recruitment into the Armed Forces and Police.

  • 20,000 new police officers to be enlisted, raising the total planned increase to 50,000.

  • NYSC camps approved for use as supplementary police training centres.

  • VIP security officers to be withdrawn, retrained, and redeployed to high-risk zones.

  • DSS authorised to deploy all trained forest guards and recruit more personnel to clear terrorists and bandits from forests nationwide.

  • Commendation for recent rescues of 24 schoolgirls in Kebbi and 38 abducted worshippers in Kwara, with renewed assurances that other hostages will be recovered.

  • Full federal support pledged for state-run security outfits.

  • National Assembly urged to amend laws to enable states willing to establish state police.

  • State governments advised to reconsider boarding schools in remote areas and ensure religious centres adopt consistent security measures.

  • Reaffirmation of commitment to ending farmer-herder clashes through the new Livestock Ministry. Herders encouraged to adopt ranching, abandon open grazing and surrender illegal weapons.

  • Tributes paid to fallen soldiers—including Brigadier General Musa Uba—and condolences extended to families affected by recent attacks across multiple states.

  • Warning issued to criminals that government restraint must not be perceived as weakness.
