Game Over For Abure? Osinbajo’s Ex-Aide Exposes Shocking Intrigues In LP Crisis
Laolu Akande, spokesperson to former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has criticized Labour Party (LP) National Chairman Julius Abure, saying his refusal to step down despite rejection reflects the behavior of a typical Nigerian politician.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Akande made this statement during an interview on Channels Television, following the recent Labour Party National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, which Abure boycotted. The meeting was convened despite Abure’s warning to LP presidential candidate Peter Obi and Abia State Governor Alex Otti not to proceed. Abure claimed a court ruling upheld his position as Chairman, but party leaders dismissed his assertion and submitted a certified true copy of the Supreme Court judgment to INEC, backing his removal.
Akande urged Abure to act in the nation’s interest and show “a bit of charity to himself,” suggesting that external forces may be fueling the leadership crisis.
“The Labour Party once represented a fresh wave of hope,” he said. “Despite the outcome of the presidential election, it ignited grassroots mobilization and signaled that something new could emerge in Nigerian politics. Unfortunately, that promise is now unraveling.”
Akande insisted that Abure and his allies no longer represent the core of the party, stating, “Everyone that truly matters in the Labour Party has moved on. The era of Julius Abure is over.”
He also noted that the Supreme Court’s decision effectively nullifies Abure’s claim, as the original issue stemmed from his legal attempt to retain recognition after his tenure had expired. “The court’s ruling has taken us back to that point — where Abure is no longer the Chairman,” he added.
