The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, has once again surged across Nigeria, with retail outlets now selling between ₦1,250 and ₦1,300 per kilogram.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This marks a sharp rise from ₦1,050 per kg recorded just a week earlier, heightening concerns among Nigerians already struggling with the rising cost of living.

According to the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, the latest price hike is largely due to the recent strike action by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).

Speaking to State House correspondents after meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Sunday, October 5, Ojulari explained that the industrial action disrupted gas loading and distribution for several days, triggering an artificial supply shortage and price escalation.

The development comes despite efforts by the Dangote Refinery to ease market pressure. The refinery recently slashed its ex-depot price of LPG by ₦50, from ₦810 to ₦760 per kilogram, in a bid to make the commodity more affordable.

However, the retail market is yet to reflect this reduction, as consumers continue to pay much higher rates.

Based on the current market average of ₦1,250 per kilogram, here’s what Nigerians now spend to refill their gas cylinders:

  • 1kg – ₦1,250

  • 3kg – ₦3,750

  • 5kg – ₦6,250

  • 10kg – ₦12,500

  • 12kg – ₦15,000

  • 12.5kg – ₦15,625
