The governor made this disclosure while welcoming a delegation from the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, on a condolence visit to his office in Ado-Ekiti. The Afenifere delegation, led by Chief Korede Duyile, the Ondo State chairman, represented Chief Reuben Fasoranti, the national leader, expressing condolences over the recent tragedy in Ekiti State involving the killing of two traditional rulers and the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers. Fortunately, the abducted individuals have been released.

Governor Oyebanji condemned the gruesome killing of the traditional rulers, terming it sacrilegious and an affront to the Ekiti people and the Yoruba race. He assured that those responsible for the heinous act would face justice. Regarding the schoolchildren’s kidnapping, he emphasized the need to mobilize forces to rescue the children and commended President Tinubu’s consistent communication and directives during the ordeal.

The governor acknowledged ongoing efforts by security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators, emphasizing the importance of bringing them to justice to halt such dastardly acts. He also highlighted the unity among Southwest governors on security matters, mentioning the collective position they share. Oyebanji noted the temporary slowdown in activities due to the passing of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and expressed the intention to resume collaborative efforts after his burial as a mark of respect.

In their condolences, Afenifere leaders lamented the killing of the monarchs and the abduction of schoolchildren, advocating for the restructuring of the country to address security and other challenges. They stressed the importance of equipping the South West Security Network, Amotekun, with the necessary resources to enhance its effectiveness in countering security threats. Additionally, the leaders called for an urgent review of the Constitution, deeming it obsolete in light of current realities.
