On Tuesday, the soldier shot the teenager as Nigerian Army troops intervened in hunger protests in the Samaru community, Zaria. The army announced on Wednesday that the officer involved has been arrested and is being held pending an investigation.
In response, Governor Sani issued a statement on Thursday promising that the incident would be thoroughly investigated and that justice would be served. He revealed that he had sent a high-level delegation, led by Commissioner for Internal Security Samuel Aruwan, to offer condolences to the teenager’s family.
Governor Sani also personally spoke with the boy’s father, Muhammad Hussaini, expressing his deep sorrow and commitment to ensuring accountability. He assured that a comprehensive investigation would be conducted and that he would maintain close contact with the family during this difficult time.
