According to NLC spokesperson Benson Upah, the security personnel, who were heavily armed, forcibly entered the building, ransacking the bookshop and removing hundreds of books and publications. They claimed to be searching for materials related to the #EndBadGovernance protests.

The NLC has demanded the immediate withdrawal of the troops and warned of a potential nationwide strike if their safety is not guaranteed. They have expressed their readiness to call on their members to stay home until their security is ensured.

In response, Peter Obi, through his media aide Yunusa Tanko, denounced the raid as an attempt to intimidate the NLC. Tanko argued that, as the NLC advocates for workers’ rights, its officials are accessible and should be properly invited if needed. He criticized the raid, especially at an inappropriate hour, as inconsistent with democratic principles.
