Sources indicate that the attack was carried out by a group of about 300 gunmen, who arrived on motorcycles, with each motorcycle carrying two or three armed individuals. The assailants launched their assault during a downpour on Friday evening around 7 pm, executing a coordinated and unopposed operation that lasted for approximately three hours.
The community was left defenseless, with no assistance arriving to rescue the villagers during the prolonged attack. The gunmen moved freely and inflicted violence upon the unsuspecting residents.
This latest invasion highlights the growing insecurity in Niger State and the increasing boldness of armed groups operating in the region. The residents of Kuchi and surrounding areas now live in constant fear, with many wondering when the next attack might occur and how they can protect themselves from these recurrent threats.
Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), recently advocated for the zoning of political offices as a means to achieve political balance and peace across Nigeria. He specifically mentioned Niger State, which has adopted the zoning system since the return of democracy in 1999, as an example of how such practices can bring stability.
However, the ongoing security challenges, such as the attack on Kuchi, underscore the need for a more robust response to protect communities and ensure the safety of all citizens. The loss of lives and the abduction of scores of individuals call for urgent action from both state and federal authorities to address the escalating violence and restore peace to the affected regions.
