During the workshop, Sola Adebawo, HEOSL’s General Manager of Government, Joint Venture, and External Relations, highlighted the importance of the contractors in the company’s operations. Represented by Felix Usiwo, Manager of the Nigeria Content Department, Adebawo stated that the workshop aimed to equip local contractors with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate procurement challenges in the oil and gas industry while capitalizing on future opportunities.
Adebawo underscored that the initiative aligns with the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act of 2010, which emphasizes local content in project development. He acknowledged the contributions of local vendors to operational excellence and stressed the importance of fostering peaceful relationships and development within the communities surrounding the assets.
Dr. Jeremiah Oharisi, HEOSL’s Manager of Community Relations, echoed this sentiment, advocating for increased participation of local contractors to enhance community wealth and expertise.
The workshop included a resource session led by Engr. Mabel Obonin from the Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board, who guided participants through the contracting and tendering processes in accordance with industry regulations. She covered various contractual stages, including opportunities, technical phases, and tender administration, as well as the importance of compliance with regulatory agencies.
Additional speakers included HEOSL’s Manager of Contract and Procurement, Echerebor Solomon, who discussed vendor selection and registration processes, and Mrs. Ebehi Odejobi from Internal Audit, who emphasized the need for integrity and compliance among stakeholders. Representatives from the HEOSL Finance Department also shared insights on contractual payments and procedures.
The event concluded with goodwill messages from OML30 Joint Venture Partners and the management of the Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board, reinforcing the commitment to local contractor engagement and community empowerment.
