The 56‑year‑old music executive, currently serving a multi‑year prison sentence on prostitution-related convictions, reportedly wrote to former US President Donald Trump seeking clemency. However, Trump has made it clear that he has no intention of granting the request.

In a recent interview with The New York Times, Trump confirmed receiving Combs’ written appeal but indicated little willingness to respond favorably. “He asked me for a pardon,” Trump said, adding with a wry remark, “Oh, would you like to see that letter?” though he did not make it public.

Combs’ legal team has not disclosed the contents of the letter, while a White House spokesperson verified Trump’s statements.

Combs’ Conviction

The Bad Boy Records founder was convicted in July 2025 on two counts of transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution, connected to the organisation of paid sexual encounters. He was acquitted of the more serious racketeering and sex trafficking charges.

In October 2025, a federal judge sentenced him to 50 months in prison and a $500,000 fine. With credit for time served, his release is projected for mid‑2028.

Trump, who has a history of high-profile and sometimes controversial clemencies, suggested that his strained relationship with Combs influenced the decision. Once socially acquainted, Trump noted that their rapport deteriorated after Combs publicly criticized him during political campaigns. “I was very friendly with him … but when he ran for office, he was very hostile,” Trump said.

During the interview, Trump also addressed other potential clemency requests, dismissing rumors of pardons for deposed Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, disgraced crypto executive Sam Bankman-Fried, and former Senator Robert Menendez. On Derek Chauvin, convicted in George Floyd’s murder, Trump said simply, “I haven’t been asked about it.”

Trump’s tenure featured numerous high-profile clemencies, including over 1,500 pardons tied to the January 6 Capitol attack and various other political allies and celebrity figures, actions that frequently sparked debate across the US political spectrum.
