These substantial sums were injected into the scheme by successive administrations since 1999, without commensurate positive impact.

Ogene, who also serves as the Labour Party caucus leader in the House and represents the Ogbaru Federal Constituency in Anambra state, expressed his dissatisfaction with the apparent reluctance of relevant ministries and agencies to provide documentation regarding the utilization of public funds for previous Mass Transit Schemes.

The committee chair disclosed that in a single year, 2012, an amount exceeding N16 billion was channeled through The Infrastructure Bank (TIB) for the procurement of buses for Public Mass Transit.

This funding originated from the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. The funds were accessed from the Public Mass Transit Revolving Fund (PMTF).
