Ihonvbere’s motion, which invoked Section 17(3) of the Fifth Schedule of the 1999 Constitution, highlighted several allegations against Danladi, including his involvement in a public altercation with a security guard at the Banex Plaza Shopping Complex in Abuja. The motion cited the CCT chairman’s admission of the incident during an appearance before the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions, after which he failed to attend further hearings, obstructing the investigation into his conduct.

The motion was subsequently put to a vote, and the majority supported the removal. This decision mirrors a similar resolution passed by the Senate, though the Senate’s initial resolution faced criticism from legal experts due to a procedural error, as they had cited Section 157 of the Constitution instead of the appropriate Section 17(3) of the Fifth Schedule. The Senate later corrected the error, completing the necessary steps for Danladi Umar’s removal.
