According to Ikenga, the suspect, 25-year-old Enediong Bassey from Ikono Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, was apprehended on Friday at 6:38 p.m. in Nkwell-Ezunaka. Police operatives from the 33 Police Divisional Headquarters, led by CSP Emeka Obi, acted on credible intelligence to make the arrest.

During questioning, Bassey admitted to being a member of a local vigilante group and confessed that he was attempting to flee with the firearm to join a criminal gang involved in armed robbery and other illicit activities.
The police spokesman stated that, following this arrest and similar complaints of unprofessional conduct from certain vigilante groups, the Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam, has called for the profiling of all security operatives working alongside the police.
