House Of Reps Sets 7-Day Deadline For NRC To Present PPP DocumentsThe House of Representatives Committee on Public Assets and Special Duties has given the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) a seven-day deadline to submit comprehensive documentation regarding its Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreements. This directive came during a public hearing in Abuja, where the committee assessed the performance and compliance of NRC’s PPP arrangements and concessions.

Committee Chairman, Ademorin Kuye (APC-Lagos), expressed dissatisfaction with the NRC’s failure to provide the requested documents in the past. The documents requested by the committee include:

•Copies of all PPP agreements, including concessions and leases, along with their start dates

•Evidence of remittances to the Special Concession Account

•Income profiles from PPPs and concessions

•A report on achievements within the review period

•Evidence of advertisements and expressions of interest for PPPs or concessions

•Reports detailing challenges faced and recommendations for better implementation

•Budget performance records from 2021 to date, highlighting planned and executed items

•A sworn affidavit confirming the accuracy of all submitted documents

Kuye also raised concerns about a viral video showing an individual stealing from a train station and demanded a report on similar thefts that have been reported in states such as Niger, Bauchi, Nasarawa, and Lagos. He emphasized that the committee would hold all involved parties accountable.

Kuye warned that if the NRC fails to meet the December 11, 2024 deadline, the committee will exercise its constitutional powers against the corporation.

Benjamin Iloanusi, the acting Managing Director of NRC, apologized for the delays, attributing the issue to miscommunication. He explained that while the NRC had previously submitted some documents based on earlier requests, it would promptly compile and submit the full set of required materials. Iloanusi also requested access to the viral video to assist in the NRC’s internal investigation and to help identify the individuals and stations involved in the thefts.
