In 2021, Davido tweeted his account number on his birthday, and his fans responded by sending him nearly $400,000. He initially pondered what to do with the large sum. However, his father soon stepped in with advice that would shape his charitable efforts.

“My dad called me and said, ‘You know you can’t keep that money, right?’” Davido recalled. “I was like, ‘What? What do you mean I can’t keep my money? It’s my money.’”

After the conversation with his father, Davido decided to donate the entire amount to a motherless babies’ home. “I gave it all away to the motherless babies’ homes,” he explained. “We did that the first and second years, back to back. The first year it was the donations, and the next year, I used my own money. I also used my money this year.”

Davido emphasized that the donations are part of his ongoing commitment to supporting orphanages through his foundation. “It’s something we’ve been doing every year, and we hope for it to get bigger,” he said. “There are about 500 orphanages. I met people who told me they were beneficiaries. Imagine all those people praying for you.”

His father’s guidance, combined with his own generosity, has made the annual birthday donation tradition a cornerstone of Davido’s charitable work.
