House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas Plans Meeting With President Tinubu To Avert Resident Doctors’ Industrial Action

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, is taking proactive steps to address the concerns raised by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) and prevent a potential industrial action.

Furthermore, all medical professionals within the House will join the committee, with the former chairman of the 9th House Committee on Healthcare Services, Tanko Sununu, serving as the Deputy Chairman.
The Speaker emphasized the urgency of the committee’s actions.
Previously, resident doctors had carried out a five-day warning strike in May due to unmet demands, and in July, they issued a two-week notice to the government for the implementation of their requirements.
During the meeting on Monday, Abbas requested the resident doctors to grant the House leadership two weeks to find viable solutions to their concerns, taking into account that the 10th House has been inaugurated only a month ago.
The National President of NARD, Dr. Innocent Orji, agreed to the Speaker’s request and assured that they would communicate the Speaker’s stance to their members.
