Popular Nollywood actor and lecturer, Afeez Oyetoro, widely known as Saka, has opened up about the challenges he faced during the early stages of his acting career and how they impacted his self-esteem.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Saka revealed that his lack of financial stability made it difficult for him to pursue romantic relationships. He recalled struggling to meet basic needs and not being able to afford a car, which made some women doubt his future.

Saka, who teaches in the Theatre Arts Department at Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED), Ijanikin, explained that at the time, acting brought neither recognition nor income, and many people didn’t take the profession seriously. He also noted that aspiring actors lacked guidance on how to earn a living from the craft.

He recounted how a woman he wanted to marry insisted that he must own two cars before she could consider settling down with him.

“I didn’t have confidence. It took me a long time before I could even approach women. Back then, there was no money in acting, and actors weren’t respected. We were doing it purely out of passion, without knowing how to make it profitable.

“I didn’t own a car, so when I proposed to women, they often turned me down, saying there was no future with me. One even told me to leave theatre and do something more meaningful with my life.

“The one I seriously considered marrying said I needed to have two cars before she could accept. At that point, I knew she wasn’t meant for me, so I walked away. Eventually, I met my wife when I began teaching at the college,” he shared.
