Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has urged Police Strategic Managers, including DIGs, AIGs, and Command CPs, to rise to the occasion and build a competent and law-abiding force.

Acknowledging the imperfections within their ranks, Egbetokun emphasized the need to confront the challenges tarnishing their profession and eliminate corruption, which undermines the essence of justice. He issued a stern warning against complacency and indifference among senior officers under his leadership.

Additionally, he directed the establishment of Quick Response Squads to tackle crimes and criminal activities head-on. In his address to the strategic managers, Egbetokun called for a shared vision of a professional, service-driven, rule of law-compliant, and people-friendly police force that supports the government’s agenda for Nigeria’s development.

He stressed the importance of upholding the legal framework and standardizing the policing profession by embracing transparency, accountability, and professionalism. Leveraging technology and innovation, including data analytics and intelligence networks, would be crucial in staying ahead of increasingly sophisticated criminals.

Egbetokun also highlighted the need to prioritize the welfare and well-being of police officers, proposing the resuscitation of the Police Officer Support Unit (POSU) to provide confidential support and counseling services. A Recognition and Reward system would be implemented to motivate and appreciate outstanding achievements while fostering a culture of excellence.

The acting IGP emphasized the importance of accountability, integrity, and compassion among police managers, urging them to lead by example. Building trust and engaging with communities through community policing initiatives and partnerships with citizens, civil society organizations, and local leaders were deemed essential for success.

Egbetokun concluded by envisioning a future where justice prevails, vulnerable individuals find solace, and citizens can trust in the power of law enforcement. He expressed belief in the cooperation and dedication of his colleagues on this journey.
