INEC Announces Plan To Release Edo Governorship Candidates’ Credentials This Saturday

Ahead of the forthcoming Edo State gubernatorial election slated for September 21, 2024, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to unveil the details of 17 gubernatorial candidates and their respective running mates on March 30, 2024.

The particulars of the candidates will be made public through the exhibition of Form EC9 copies, along with all educational qualifications and other pertinent documents submitted by each candidate. These displays will be available at both the state headquarters and the 18 local government offices scattered across Edo State.

This disclosure was made by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee of INEC. Olumekun emphasized that following the conclusion of the party primaries, 17 political parties have successfully submitted their candidates’ nomination forms for the Edo State Governorship Election by the stipulated deadline of 6 p.m. on March 24, 2024.

“The personal particulars of the governorship candidates and their running mates will be published on Saturday, March 30, 2024, precisely a week following the final date for the submission of nominations as outlined in Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022,” stated Olumekun.

He further elaborated, “The commission shall make these personal particulars public by showcasing copies of Form EC9 alongside all academic credentials and other relevant documents submitted.
