Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State affirmed at the North-West Peace and Security Summit in Katsina that the North-West Governor’s Forum is committed to preventing insecurity from defining the region. Emphasizing the theme of ‘Regional Cooperation for Securing Lives and Livelihoods in Northwest Nigeria’, he highlighted the devastating impact of banditry on communities, disrupting lives and economic activities while instilling fear.
Radda urged leaders to adopt a comprehensive strategy involving robust intelligence gathering, community policing, and advanced security technologies. He stressed the importance of bolstering national security forces with continuous improvements and adequate resources to effectively combat banditry, emphasizing the need to strengthen intelligence networks and surveillance systems through modern tools like drones and satellite imagery.
The governor underscored the role of community engagement, urging collaboration with local leaders to foster trust and cooperation. He praised existing community security initiatives across the region and emphasized the establishment of dedicated ministries for internal security in most states. Radda also addressed the root causes of banditry, advocating for economic empowerment through vocational training and job creation to deter criminal activities.
He expressed optimism about the region’s potential for agricultural growth and called for collective action to achieve peace, security, and prosperity in Northwest Nigeria.
