Wahab disclosed that the enforcement team from the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources successfully cleared all structures, including a container used for various illicit activities, from beneath the Dolphin Estate bridge.

In his statement, Wahab mentioned, “A total of 86 rooms partitioned into 10×10 and 12×10, along with a container used for various illegal activities, were found under the Dolphin Estate Bridge. They have all been removed by the enforcement team of the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources.”

Similarly, Kunle Rotimi-Akodu, a Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, confirmed the eviction of squatters due to illegal settlements and environmental violations in a post on social media.

Rotimi-Akodu stated, “Squatters residing under the bridge leading from inward Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi, were evicted on Tuesday, 30th of April, 2024, by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), also known as KAI. These individuals established their illegal settlement under the bridge, posing a threat to critical infrastructure. So far, 23 persons have been arrested, and the Ministry of Environment/KAI will continue to monitor the area. Legal action will be taken.”

He further added, “The removal of dwellings under Dolphin bridge is ongoing. An additional 11 individuals have been arrested. It’s crucial to note that the shelters were constructed using wood materials, some occupants used gas cylinders, and others stored fuel for their generators, which are potential hazards.
