The lawmaker representing Kogi Central Senatorial District under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made the clarification during a live broadcast on her Facebook page, where she addressed accusations tying her to the 2022 Owo church attack and Kuje prison break.

She stated that both incidents occurred while she was outside Nigeria, noting that she was in the United States at the time and had just delivered a baby. She added that available timelines show the attacks happened in June and July 2022, during her absence from the country.

Akpoti-Uduaghan further explained that her pregnancy was medically classified as high-risk due to her age, requiring prolonged hospital admission before delivery. According to her, she remained under close medical supervision and was not in any condition to travel or participate in any activity during that period.

She said she gave birth in July, shortly after one of the incidents, stressing that her health situation made any involvement in violent acts impossible.

The senator maintained that the allegations were false and politically driven, claiming they were designed to remove her from the ballot.

She also reiterated her earlier criticisms of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, alleging his close ties with security authorities during his time in office.

According to her: “Owo massacre and Kuje prison break, one happened on June 5, 2022, and the other on July 5, 2022. I was in the United States during that period, and I had my baby.”

She added that she had been on medical admission for about a month before delivery due to complications in her pregnancy.

“I was 43, so it was a high-risk pregnancy. I was on admission and not moving around. I gave birth a week after the Owo massacre, on July 12,” she said.

The senator concluded by insisting that the terrorism allegation was fabricated to frustrate her political ambition, stating: “They accused me of sponsoring terrorism just to get me out of the ballot at all costs.”
