Earlier this year, the minimum age for admission was set at 16 during the 2024 Policy Meeting, with a cut-off date initially established as December 31, 2024. This development sparked varied reactions from parents and the public.

In a statement released by JAMB’s Public Relations Officer, Fabian Benjamin, the board clarified that some institutions have extended their admission periods until July 2025. Consequently, candidates turning 16 by the end of August will also be eligible for admission.

ā€œThis measure aims to ensure fairness, as those whose 2024 admission lasts until August 2025 should not be unduly advantaged. Institutions are free to enforce their own 16-year age requirement as of 2024 if they choose,ā€ the statement explained.
