Yusuf stated, “The Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission has inaugurated a judicial panel to investigate electoral malpractices related to the upcoming local government elections.” The swearing-in of 13 judges was conducted by the state Chief Judge, Umar Sadiq, with Justice Musa Ubale serving as chair.
The panel will be responsible for receiving complaints from individuals who believe they were wronged during the elections or experienced other negative issues.
The inauguration event was attended by key officials, including the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Bello Abdulkadir Fanini, and the chairman of the commission, Alhaji Auwalu Harbo.
Following President Bola Tinubu’s endorsement of the Supreme Court’s ruling on local government autonomy in July, state governments and electoral bodies have begun organizing elections. Kano is set to hold its elections on October 26, while Bauchi and Kogi held theirs in August. Additionally, Kwara, Enugu, and Imo conducted elections on Saturday, with Abia scheduled for November 2.
