Akinsowon emphasized the importance of adhering to the community’s traditions and customs in the selection process, distancing themselves from any method that deviates from established norms. He announced the initiation of the process to replace the late Oba Olusegun Akinbola, who passed away three years ago.

Addressing the issue of individuals falsely claiming the throne, Akinsowon categorically labeled them as impostors, highlighting that such actions contradict the ancient town’s traditions. He reiterated that the installation of a new king would strictly align with the town’s customs, emphasizing that a High Court had invalidated previous methods of selecting traditional rulers.

Following a meeting with key stakeholders, including traditional kingmakers, chiefs, and youth representatives, Akinsowon clarified the present regency status. He underscored that, presently, there is no recognized king in Alade, only a regent fulfilling the duties of the Oba. He cautioned against any individual assuming the Oba title without the formal consent of the kingmakers, emphasizing that the throne could only be rightfully claimed through the approved traditional process.

Akinsowon acknowledged the recent court judgment redirecting them to the traditional method of installing an Oba. In response to this, he expressed the need to consult with the community’s elders to seek guidance on the appropriate course of action. Notably, the community’s rich history includes 25 Obas, with the 26th currently on the throne, and the selection process will adhere strictly to tradition.

Addressing the issue of ruling houses, Akinsowon clarified that, for now, they are not considering any particular ruling house. Instead, they are focusing on the traditional process, involving two ruling houses in Alade—the Akinbola and Akinboro.

Akinsowon also mentioned the reduction in the number of kingmakers and emphasized the importance of their role in the selection process. He affirmed that no Oba had received court approval, asserting the authority of the Aladeokun-in-council of Alade, Idanre.

Supporting the stance of the kingmakers, the town’s youth secretary, Adewale Akinrinlola, insisted on the observance of due process in selecting the monarch and urged the kingmakers to swiftly commence the necessary actions.
