Daku noted that Bassa was historically peaceful, with harmonious coexistence among different tribes and religions, until inter-tribal conflicts emerged in 2016. He praised former Governor Yahaya Bello for successfully restoring peace, a stability that has deteriorated under the current administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
He detailed recent incidents, including the killing of a farmer two months ago and the murders of three residents in Sheria Town on October 23, followed by the deaths of two more individuals on October 24. Daku urged the Kogi State Government to instruct security agencies to increase their efforts to prevent further violence and to identify and prosecute those responsible for these attacks.
Abu Onoru-Oiza Jibrin, representing Ajaokuta State Constituency, reinforced the urgency of the situation, emphasizing that farmers are particularly targeted and lamenting the devaluation of human life evident in the brutality of the attacks.
Major Enefola from Igalamela called for the removal of certain security personnel in Bassa, alleging their complicity in the violence. In response, Speaker Aliyu Yusuf directed the House Committee on Security to investigate the situation, using local vigilantes to uncover the root causes of the killings and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
